ELEVENTH IPL ATHLETE TESTS POSITIVE FOR BANNED SUBSTANCE

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT WAS ISSUED ON 1.11.17 BY BEN YOSEF, IPL FOUNDER & PRESIDENT, IN RESPONSE TO ELEVENTH ATHLETE TESTING POSITIVE FOR A BANNED SUBSTANCE:

***While the IPL cannot officially “approve” any products or supplements, what we can do is point athletes to the NSF Certified for Sport® Program. Your safest bet is to use only products that have this certification.***

“This now marks the 11th positive drug-test result in the IPL’s thirty month history. This time following our 2017 IPL APEX II (year-end championship event), held on November 19th in Sacramento, CA.

The IPL utilizes the most stringent drug-testing protocol in Physique Competition. This not only includes using only World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) testing labs, which are the most thorough and test for the largest number of substances, but also using third-party, independent, Certified Urine Sample Collectors in order to insure razor-sharp chain-of-custody when it comes to handling the samples.

BIKINI OPEN 1st place + IPL PRO CARD winner Yesenia Garcia tested positive for methylhexaneamine. This falls under the WADA S6 Stimulant list and is prohibited for use during competition. As a result, Yesenia has been placed on Athlete Suspension.

Testing positive for this comes with a 1-year suspension from competing within the IPL and any other United Physique Competitors Association (UPCA) member organizations. In addition, Yesenia’s placing and IPL PRO CARD have been revoked.

We will welcome Yesenia back into the IPL as an Amateur competitor in 2019 if she chooses to return.”

The following statement was issued by Yesenia Garcia:

Receiving the news that I tested positive for a banned substance was a complete shock to me. It still is as I’m typing this. Why lie… I’m extremely upset, because getting into competitions is a big investment. Had I known during my prep that a simple fat burner I ‘tried’, not actually “took”, would affect me this way I would have never even made the expense.

It’s so degrading for me. I trusted my supplement sponsor, as I was clear with them that I was into all “natural competing”. I have never taken any kind of drug, especially for something I was wanting to have fun doing. Knowing I didn’t take the supplement during my entire prep brings me peace, because I worked super hard and gave it 110% of my effort. Placing 1st has never been my number one intention but I did give it my all, naturally.

I have thousands of followers whom I am entirely open to. I share my life as a mother of two, a business owner and now a bikini competitor. I share my life, raw, no filter whatsoever. I show what supplements I’ve personally tried/taken and how it has helped etc… I have absolutely no intention of cheating my way to place. It’s absurd. I wanted and still want to be an inspiration to many.

All I can say is if you plan on competing naturally, take a minute to do some research on your own. This was an honest mistake. Something I was not aware of at all, and I do plan on stepping back on stage again once I’m allowed to. Thank you to Ben for allowing me to share this publicly. See you again in a year!!!”
